The photo this week isn’t terribly recent, but it was something I was working on today. I made this photo about a year ago in Parc Omega in Quebec. A very interesting place to visit.I’m always trying different approaches to editing and this is just one of those shots.

Since I switched to Nikon a few years ago, I have missed having a second body to set up another lens. I fixed that recently, I got a really good deal on another body for this purpose.Thia particular body was reported to be extremely well known for high ISO/Low Noise and by looking at my tests thus far, I think it’s better for noise than my D810! What did I get? a D750. The photo below was made at 12,800 ISO and is plenty usable. I applied a little noise reduction but it’s fairly clean considering.

This image was made in Nova Scotia on the “Eastern Shore”. I love shooting moving water because you can play with the shutter and put your own mark on it. I don’t like when the exposure on the moving water goes too smooth, it just looks wrong in my mind. I like it just slow enough to show some movement. This was at .6 of a second and I really think this worked just right. The affect of movement is good while still showing detail.

This image isn’t any competition winner or anything but I do like the minimalism used in it. When I first went to the maritimes about 17 years ago I was eager to learn all about the fishing industry. In our time there, most of our neighbours were either current or past fishermen and they are just amazing people with tons of interesting stories. As we got to know people there, we felt more at home and accepted by the locals. We explored most parts of the province at least a little, with an emphasis on the north-east mainland where our house is, and Cape Breton Island.
We bought an old house that was built by a lighthouse keeper from the nearby lighthouse when he retired. At first, the house needed lots of TLC and we found that we spent a lot of time working on it during our vacations so eventually it started to become more of a burden, we began to see vacations more as work and less as relaxation. We originally had plans of spending whole summers in the maritimes, only coming back to Ontario when the weather pushed us back this way, but things have a way of changing.
As time has gone by, we found ourselves going to the house less and less and we have decided that the money can be better used in other ways, we just can’t justify keeping the house for the little bit of time it is actually used any more. The time has come to say goodbye to Nova Scotia…… for now.

Limestone City Blues Festival was the weekend past. It was the 24th edition and seems to have great success even at this time, or maybe because of the time? This shot is Steve Marriner, an amazing musician during a performance at the festival. It was so nice to get to shoot on a full size stage again! Stay safe.
