Limestone City Blues Festival was the weekend past. It was the 24th edition and seems to have great success even at this time, or maybe because of the time? This shot is Steve Marriner, an amazing musician during a performance at the festival. It was so nice to get to shoot on a full size stage again! Stay safe.

I have been a Lightroom user for many years as an editing app. In all that time, I’ve only used Photoshop for a couple of minor little things when needed. With all the down time since the pandemic began, I have worked on learning some of it. I just thought it would be fun to explore some of the artistic things that can be done. I have been asked a lot about concert photography. People have all sorts of notions about how it “really is” and to tell you the truth, much of it just isn’t true. It’s a job we all do because we love it but the glamour level is a tad lower than most people imagine. It’s a genre of photography that requires specific equipment and an abundance of time learning the ropes to become good at it. It’s definitely not a situation where you set your camera on some magical mode and shoot away. I have seen a steady progression in the quality of my work over time.

I have been fairly busy over the spring and early summer shooting concerts. This is a photo of Matt Andersen from May 9 at The Grand Theatre here in Kingston. Many people think you need to keep your ISO down and often have trouble shooting concerts. This image was made at an ISO of 11,400 and turned out completely usable. With modern camera bodies, gone are the days of staying below 800, you can shoot much higher as long as you’re nailing the exposure, or maybe even overexposing slightly.
