Last weekend, I took a workshop presented by Andree Thorpe near Kingston with a group of other people from the Photo Club. It was a weekend workshop consisting of classroom lecture and lots of shooting as well. The biggest thing we were discussing was panorama shooting and editing techniques. Very interesting to me. I didn't get a killer pano at the workshop, but I really didn't expect to when I'd not done it before, but hopefully in the future I'll get some interesting images. This photo was made while at a location on Howe Island, it's a single frame, but I love how the tree breanches frame the old shed.

I spent this past weekend attending a photography workshop and was so busy that I just didn't get to posting the Photo of the Week on Sunday like usual.
I spend quite a bit of time in Nova Scotia and often find myself in places at the wrong time of day, when the sun makes it almost impossible to get any meaningful image. This day on top of MacKenzie Mountain was bright, "contrasty" sunlight, not at all what a photographer looks for. When traveling, I am often presented with great places at all the wrong times. We can't always wait for the right light to happen, we have to get the picture, or not, it's that simple. Often times, what I might end up with is just a vacation snapshot because of this. This particular day, I got this photograph of Fishing Cove that I originally thought was a "deleter" but with some work on the computer, I found that I actually like it. It isn't a Great image, by any means, but it is a good picture of a place that I love, so well worth it.

A couple of years ago, Andre Gallant passed through Kingston and did an all day seminar for our local photography club. One of the things he was talking about was what he calls "dreamscapes". Essentially it is the Orton Effect, where you duplicate a sharp image, blur the copy, place it on top of the original and blend together. It gives a dreamy looking result that can be used quite artistically. This is an example of one I played with. This is an apple tree here in Kingston when the light was just right.

Last week I posted a photograph from the Ausable River in the Adirondacks. This is a great area and provides many wonderful things to photograph. There are so many rivers, waterfalls, and, oh yes, the mountains. :) This is another spot on The Ausable that I liked because of the moving water. If you look closely in the distance you can see a fly fisherman, of which there were many.

Had a hard time finding something interesting to put here this time. Settled on this one from a trip to Lake Placid a few years ago. This is the Ausable River, the main river that cuts through that area.
