Details.....
A few years ago, we went on a photowalk with a bunch of people and were asked to specifically look at details. Lines, colours, shapes, textures, things like that. In Kingston, we're lucky to be blessed with our share of old architecture. This old stuff is loaded with interest and that's often where I find myself drawn when I think of details. I think it's extremely important to preserve these heritage buildings because they really don't build them like this any longer.
One of the things I like photographing is city skylines during blue hour. This shot is obviously Seattle, if you recognize the Space Needle. I made this one evening from Kerry Park where you get one of the most iconic views of the Seattle skyline. For those of you who have been to Seattle, it really does rain quite a lot and that evening did not disappoint. We took a cab to the park and got set up. The clouds seemed to be thickening as time went by, but I wasn't really worried until I looked out to sea and saw the rain coming in. I got some ok shots, but eventually the sky opened up. There is a sculpture in the park that you can get right inside, and that's what we did while we waited for our cab. It was an experience, to be sure, but I got my photograph.
While on Vacation in Scotland a few years ago, we visited several castles, in varying degrees of decay. We visited nearby Stirling Castle, but only from a distance due to it being extremely busy, but Doune is the first one we got to tour. Doune is a medieval castle with a storied history, both royally as well as militarily. Mary, Queen of Scots actually visited this castle on many occasions and you can even see the rooms she occupied. The completeness of the site helps to make it one of Scotland's most cherished castles.
The other claim to fame for Doune is the fact that much of The Holy Grail was filmed there using different parts of the castle to represent other castles. There is a self-guided tour you can take using a device with headphones and narrated by Terry Jones of Monty Python.

I'm a day late getting The Photo of the Week up this time. Been a busy weekend and just didn't have time to get it done. I decided to use a subject that I have posted before on the Facebook page, but not on here. This is also a different angle than before. This is Eileen Donan Castle, one of the first we visited in Scotland. Eileen Donan is a 20th century rebuild of an older castle, but it is still one of the most photographed castle in Britain. We stopped there on three occasions, but I still couldn't get it with mist on the loch, oh well.
