Photo of the Week #156

Back at the beginning of the pandemic I decided to use my extra free time at home wisely and do something that made me happy. I took a Master Class of Joel Grimes and a class with Matt Kloskowski as well. I signed up for a course through Phlearn to gain the basics of Photoshop. After all these years of photographing, I had never learned anything more than a couple of very basic things.

I wouldn’t say I am exactly a power user now, but I do feel quite comfortable working within Photoshop now and could easily process a photo from start to finish. I find that after learning the basics, I am understanding far more and even trying my own things. This image is a complete composite I put together for a contest and it did ok too! For a first time I think I did pretty well, not completely happy but I learned and that’s the main thing.

....Photo of the Week #155

Some time ago, I took an image of my granddaughter using natural light from the window, which I love. I got the idea to use a photo of rain on a window in the attempt to add just a touch of creativity. This image, Rain Rain Go Away, is the outcome. I was told by a friend that the photo looks like it could have been taken this way. I take that as a compliment. Thanks for looking, thoughts always welcome.

UPDATE: This image was entered into a local club competition and won first place in the Creative Experimental category. Subsequently, when judged along with other placing images for the year, also won Image Of The Year. Although I make images to please myself, it is always nice to get a bit of recognition.

I have been a Lightroom user for many years as an editing app. In all that time, I’ve only used Photoshop for a couple of minor little things when needed. With all the down time since the pandemic began, I have worked on learning some of it. I just thought it would be fun to explore some of the artistic things that can be done. Photo of the Week #153......

My wife and I have spent a great deal of time in Nova Scotia and it shows in the volume of photos from there in my catalog. Those of you who recognize The Cabot Trail will know this place, just north of Cheticamp. I love how the road snakes it’s way through the trees as it makes it’s way up the coast on the western side of Cape Breton. Some world famous beauty for sure. Along the way, you may see pilot whales or seals, or a fishing boat working along the shore.

Photo of the Week #152

This image was inspired by a speaker who spoke at one our online photography club meetings this season, Wayne Fisher. I was a little intrigued by the work he showed and played around with some on my own. Wayne sent me looking in places I would never have thought to look for images. This is called “All Aboard”, I thought it looks like some sort of space ship maybe. I entered the image in the club contest for the first round of the year and it won first place in Creative Experimental. It is kind of funny but I totally lost interest in competing for a long time and just decided to test the waters once again since we have completely over hauled how judging is done, being online due to the health concerns these days.
